Black Women in Comedy Laff Fest:

Mental Health and Wellness Initiative

Empowerment, Advocacy, and Community

At the Black Women in Comedy Laff Fest (BWIC Laff Fest), we are committed to the holistic well-being of our performers and audience. Our mission extends beyond comedy to include significant mental health and wellness support, empowering Black women through every facet of their journey.

Mental Health and Wellness Initiative

Workshop: Restorative Healing Through Humor

During the festival, we will host a dedicated mental health and wellness workshop, "Restorative Healing Through Humor." This workshop aims to provide a safe and nurturing space for Black women to discuss their mental health needs. Through guided sessions, participants will explore how humor can serve as a powerful tool for healing and resilience.

Key Features of the Workshop:

Safe Space for Discussion: Creating an environment where women can openly discuss mental health challenges without judgment.

Therapeutic Humor: Exploring the role of humor in managing stress, trauma, and emotional well-being.

Restorative Practices: Incorporating mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and creative expression to foster healing.

Why Mental Health Matters in Comedy

Breaking Stigmas: Mental health issues often carry a stigma, particularly within communities of color. By addressing these topics openly, we aim to break down barriers and promote a culture of acceptance and support.

Empowerment: Providing tools and resources for mental health empowers Black women to navigate the challenges of the comedy industry with confidence and resilience.

Community Building: Fostering a sense of community and mutual support strengthens the network of Black women in comedy, creating a more inclusive and nurturing environment.

Sponsorship Opportunities

We invite sponsors to join us in supporting this vital initiative. Your sponsorship will help us:

Fund Workshops: Cover costs for professional facilitators and mental health experts to lead our restorative healing sessions.

Provide Resources: Supply materials and resources to participants, including access to teletherapy services funded by grants and sponsorships.

Expand Outreach: Enhance our advocacy efforts, reaching more Black women in comedy and beyond.
